Message from Principal Mike McLaughlin

NBH MS/HS Parents,

Greetings fellow Buccaneers. Let me take a moment and go over some important events happening this week at the MS/HS campus.

MAP testing continues for our MS students. We use this test for all K-8 students. When results come back in a few weeks each teacher will be working with you on individualized personal learning plans for each child based on his/her math and reading results. It is important that you work with your child's teacher on this. One simple way you can help tremendously is getting your child on Success Maker every night. Success Maker is on on-line program built off of how your child did on the MAP test- it is individualized and will adapt to your child's ability level. It is important that you "do not help" your child get the right answers- as hard as that is- I get it I watch my two elementary kids struggle too:). Here is why- if you give them the correct answers, the program will adapt and become harder and harder and it will take them to a level he/she is not ready for. Rather, show them on the side how to figure it out by giving them other examples. And just know some times there are problems (especially in math) that will not be age appropriate (my 1st grade daughter had a 3 digit multiplication problem last night). So don't worry about those just move on. The MAP testing window is this week and next so if your child doesn't test this week he/she will next. More to come......

Canvas For Parents:

The parent app for Canvas is now working. Canvas was having issues with it and those have now been resolved. If you donwloaded the app, you may want to reinstall it. The directions are under the parent tab on our website. Need more information? Come to the media center tonight at pm6 or Thursday night at 6pm,

Wednesday will be the MS incentive party for all of those who finished their summer work! Great job everyone!

Thursday at lunch we will have a representative here selling NBH varsity jackets. More information will be sent home Thursday.

This upcoming Friday is the high school football team's season opener against Rutherford at the new Tommy Oliver stadium at 7:00. We hope you can make it. The PTSP is hosting a "NBHCA Tailgate Party" from 5-6 at the NBH pavilion. This is a free event so please join us whether you are going to the game or not. There will be free food and games for all. Friday is also a HS only pep rally/ dress up day. The theme is "rock and roll." Student's can dress up as long as it's school appropriate- we will talk about this at lunch with the kids every day this week.

Good luck Saturday to our lady BUCS who get their volleyball season started at the Chipley tourney. Also good luck to our cross country team who opens their season at Harders Park Saturday.

I appreciate all of the volunteers helping and assisting the first week of school. It has helped in our smooth start to the school year. We so appreciate you!!!! Keep up the hard work we need you!

Just a reminder about car pick up. MS parents need to stay out of the gym loop until after 3:20 (HS parents are still picking kids up until 3:20 and MS doesn't get out of school until  3:20). HS parents need to stay out of the loop until at least 2:55 (NBHE parents are still picking up elementary kids until 2:50 and HS doesn't get out until 3:00. If you are in a hurry and need to get your child, feel free to park in either the gym lot, the elementary lot, or the dirt lot, walk up by the gym and pick up your child at dismissal. If you are a MS parent and you can get to the elementary service drive, you may pick up your MS child at NBHE pickup (there continues to be literally NO traffic so take advantage of this). Finally, this all goes a lot smoother if you have a talk with your child about being at car pick up, alert and ready to go. One person can hold up many.

Finally, I just wanted to remind everyone to stay plugged into what is going on. MS/HS administration and I work on the NBHCA calendar daily and keep it updated. Go to and look at the calendar of events on the right hand side to stay organized and in tuned to what is going on. Pay attention to the website, these eblasts and our school Facebook page. Have questions? Email us if you have any questions- we are here to help!

Have a great week and go BUCS! If you need anything don't hesitate emailing me or stopping me at car pick up/ drop off.

Please turn in your first day packets to the front office

SGA Table

Please stop by the SGA Table in the Buccaneer Cafe' to pick up your applications.  We are currently seeking officers for all grade levels.  There are two different applications this year - one for students interested in serving in an officer's position and the other application is for students interested in becoming a representative.  All paperwork, fees, recommendations, poster approval will need to be completed by 8/24.  Campaigns will begin 8/27-8/31.

Letter Jackets

A representative from Maverick Awards will be here on August 23 at 11 am in the lunchroom to complete sizing and take orders for letter jackets. A $100.00 deposit is required with the order form.

Order forms can be picked up in the High School front office.
