Bio Page

Anne Elsea Thrift grew up in Marietta, GA before moving to FL as a young adult.  Although always doing summer swim leagues, Anne got a later start (age 11) on committing to a competitive year-round team, Swim Atlanta.  Anne served as captain of both her high school (Alan C. Pope) and college swim team.  It was here at Rollins College in Winter Park, FL that Anne held team records for 4 relay events (200 free relay, 400 medley relay, 400 free relay, 800 free relay) during the Division II NCAA Bluegrass Mt. Championships her senior year.  She won the collegiate Outstanding Senior Swimmer Award and was profiled as an exceptional student-athlete in the Rollins Alumni Record.  After graduating with honors both from Rollins (B.A. in Psychology) and also Florida State University (M.S. in Health Education: Exercise Physiology concentration), Anne pursued a health sciences career while still making time for swim coaching.

Anne’s coaching endeavors encompass a variety of settings, including undergraduate adjunct swim instruction, summer sports camps, private & group stroke refinement sessions, triathlon training, USA-level age group programs (Savannah Swim Team, Club Nole), Special Olympics water sports, and high school teams (Hernando High, Maclay College Prep, Arnold).  Anne was given the Hernando County coach of the year award for the boy’s swim team.  As a member of the Savannah Masters Swim Team, Anne tackled a 5 km open water swim in the Skidaway River.  Additionally, she competed in both individual and relay events with former teammates at the Rollins Swim Alum Team meet (also our coach’s surprise retirement send-off) over a decade after graduating, which was truly nostalgic and bittersweet.  In 2019 Anne accepted the Head Swim Coach position here at North Bay Haven Charter Academy and hopes to make a positive impact on our athletes and community.

When not on the pool deck, you can find Anne creating pieces of art which continues to be a longstanding passion, playing competitive tennis (my “other” sport), practicing piano and guitar, cooking, doing yardwork, or just hanging out with her husband, stepson, friends, family, and pets.
